Why Does This Matter?
Drag Kings continue to face a cultural drought of opportunities—fewer gigs, lower pay, and limited platforms compared to their cisgender or Drag Queen counterparts. THEY WILL BE KINGS boldly answers this gap, providing:
- A safe, empowering platform for trans and gender non-conforming artists.
- A chance for audiences to witness Drag Kings in their full complexity.
- An opportunity for the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate, connect, and inspire action.
Many of the THEY WILL BE KINGS performers started as audience members. Seeing performers freely explore their gender on stage—and being celebrated for it—ignited their journey into Drag Kinging. From workshops to performances, Kings of Joy has empowered over 129 new Drag Kings to date, creating a loyal and vibrant community.
